Explorations in Yoga with Emily

Explorations in yoga is informed by Emily’s depth of experience as a movement practitioner and the approach to yoga is therapeutic, mindful and somatic. In this practice elements of Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, somatic movement principles, trauma sensitive yoga and yoga therapy are woven together to create a grounding, uplifting, inclusive and self-regulating experience.

The movement practice is built upon choice, agency, body intelligence and a reconnection to felt sense as a pathway towards embodiment and aims to be soulful and exspansive as well as nurturing and grounding. The form, structure and tradition of yoga offers the framework and a mindful somatic approach offers space to hear ourselves and listen to our bodies from within this form. This can facilitate our ability to inhabit the yoga practice in a way that is accessible to who we are as unique individuals.

In the class there is an exploration between many different energetic states and qualities with a focus on both movement and rest as nourishing and needed factors. Being able to embody a varied and diverse range of physical states from the strong to the soft and everything in between has many therapeutic benefits, can support nervous system resilience and offers the chance to explore what we need as unique individuals to cultivate balance in our system.

I refer to select principles taken from somatic experiencing therapy to assist accessing a state of embodiment that is safe and manageable. This type of practice has a lot of depth to it but can be tapped into from any level of experience so the beginner and more advanced student can practice easily side by side.

When we can dance between our “being” and “doing” selves and create a balance of harmonious interaction between the two, however, then each becomes a support for the other...if we go fully into the heart of one, the other will naturally follow

Gentle Explorations in Yoga with Emily

A gentle, slow paced yet deep class that will be able to fully accommodate anybody who would like to join no matter ability or level. We will explore a mixture of seated, lying and some standing forms as well as fluid movement sequences at a gentle pace that is manageable for all. Similar themes to as above but with a gentler focus.

The body has an intuitive knowing capacity; the physiology has an innate intelligence that we have lost connection with, with mindfulness of the body we are reawakening this capacity
